Create Art - fabric art journal cover

Hi!

A while ago I started journaling on loose pages and thought I should bind them into a journal when they where all done. Well, I changed my mind. I wanted them to be in one place now, but I wanted to be able to take the pages out to work on and then put back. So, I made myself this Midori style fabric cover. First time I made something like this and I made it really easy for myself! I didn´t measure anything. The fabric is just one layer of cotton fabric from an old pillow case.

I started by laying down one of my watercolour papers (A4 size) open flat on the fabric and just cut around it leaving a boarder for about 1-2 cm. I distressed the edges of the fabric a bit, I didn´t want it to look neat. I made 5 holes with my crop-a-dile (just measuring with my eyes) and attached eyelets.
I covered both sides with white gesso.

First layer of paint using That´s Crafty Multi surface paints diluted with water.
I dried each colour before adding the next.

I did some stenciling using That´s Crafty Dinky stencils and paints one shade lighter
than the base colours. They appear darker though because they are not diluted with water.

I stamped one of the flowers from Rubber Dance Crazy Flowers 1 stamp set using Archival ink.
I used acrylic markers from Panduro and Posca pens for some doodling and mark making.

I stamped Free yourself and Make art from Rubber Dance Artist Plate stamp set and
did some more doodling.
I threaded elastic string through the eyelets two rounds. That left me with 4 strings on the inside to attach my signatures to.

I used one of Tim Holtz quote chips, punched two holes with my crop-a-dile and attached to the string that will act as closure of the journal.

Here´s the back of my journal.

I had so much fun creating this, just playing and not worrying about making it perfect :)

Thanks for stopping by today!
I´m back tomorrow with an art journal spread with a video tutorial.
